Why did I have to bury a seventeen-year-old, high school girl who loved her Lord, just a week or so before Christmas?
Why did my oldest boy lose his right eye in an accident when we were just starting ministry in a village to teach the
Good News of God’s love? And why did my second son overdose on the ‘old 222’s’ just as we were opening a new
village to the gospel? Those pills ate the lining out of his stomach so bad that he threw up big chunks of brown blood.
He then swallowed nearly 100 aspirins less than a month later when we were far in the bush with no means of
transportation. We literally stayed up all night expecting him to to die from internal bleeding. These are old events we
experienced. Last year a family who had been saved late in life had these experiences: They lost 2 family members to
alcohol poisoning, and as the wife was ready to retire, she died of cancer. How do I comfort the grieving husband with
all his troubles? Life appears to not be fair in our eyes.
To understand such things, we must go back to God. To understand God, we must go back to the beginning in
Genesis 1:1,” In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Then, in Genesis 1:31 we read, “And God saw
everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”
We have a wonderful and powerful God and if we think we live in beautiful places we must remember that much of
God’s beauty was destroyed in the great flood of Noah’s day. The flood came as a judgment of God upon sinful men
and it wiped out everything, that was not in God’s ark, that Noah built. Sin is still the cause of all this earth’s
In Genesis 1 everything was beautiful and perfect but in chapter three man decided to sin by turning against God’s
words and following Satan’s words. Not long after that we have a family quarrel that ends up with Abel’s death. Before
man started to follow Satan, there was only joy and peace upon this earth. Sin is the cause and reason for every
sickness, and disease, ---every hurt and pain from Adam’s creation until our present day. But still God is in control. He
is Sovereign or the boss over all things. We could say that He is the super CEO. There is nothing that happens, in all
creation that doesn’t have to pass His desk first.
Job was possibly the first book of The Bible that was written down. He could have known Father Abraham. It contains
a scene in heaven where all the angels come before God, maybe for the days orders or something akin to that. There
had already been a war in heaven and Satan and ? of God’s angels had been cast to the earth. There is no timetable
for this war written down, but many, including me, think that it was just after creation that covetousness and greed
took over the heart of Lucifer the highest angel. When he was cast out of heaven he went straight to the beautiful
garden and through mankind, through the human race, the highest of all God’s creation, he waged war on God. But
even though he was now God’s no 1 enemy, still God says in Job 1:6 “Now there was a day when the sons of God
came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them”
We see here that even after the war and the initial casting down, that Satan still had to stand before God and receive
his orders for the day. Even though God now had an enemy, still that enemy was subject to God, and there is no
place in heaven or earth that God is not in full control. Somewhere in the Psalms God says if I bring good on a country
or a person can I not bring evil? God even suggested to Satan that he should test Job because He trusted Job, and
being the ultimate boss He could bring good out of any situation that Satan could ever dream up. Job 1:8 “And the
Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an
upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? The word escheweth really means that Job, turned away from
evil as a way of life.
Hebrews 13:5-6 tells us that God is always present-omnipresent-so that we can totally trust Him.
Hebrews 13:5-6: “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he
hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee, 6: so that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not
fear what man shall do unto me.”
God watched over Abraham even though it took till Sarah's 80th birthday for her to become pregnant. God gave her the
promised son. He watched over Job. He is supreme and is watching over us today. God is over all that happens here
on earth and He alone has the power to bring good or evil in our lives. As I look at Job it is evident that if God allows
evil to come into our lives, it is because he has ‘an ace up His sleeve.’ He knows that He will prevail in the end.
There is one problem that escapes most people today, and that is that God is preparing for the end of this old world,
and the final battle with good and evil. Just as Jesus had to come to earth as a man to fight man’s battle with sin, so
the battle of good and evil will have to be fought out on earth, where the war began, in the Garden of Eden. God is
bringing the armies of the world to fight against Him and His people, the Hebrew race. The prophets of long ago saw
these days coming and they wrote down that the world scene would be very much as we see it today, when God
decides that evil has won, for long enough, and when things look much as they do today, He will once again come
from heaven as He did in the days of Noah and destroy evil, and throw Satan, His arch enemy, into the bottomless pit
for 1000 years so His kingdom can be a kingdom of peace and joy.

After one particularly hard trip when I was
flying commercially, the weather had been
so bad, that I said to God, that I would love
to see my family at least one more time,
before I went home with Him. When Peggy
finally got my frozen clothes off, and my
ice coated boots off and we were sitting by
the fire trying to get warm again, I told her;
“Peggy there may come a day when I
won’t come home. Don’t worry, I will be on
top of a mountain somewhere with the tail
of the airplane standing over me for a
cross. Don’t bother with my body, just
leave me there.”
I went on to tell her that when that happens
I want you to remarry quickly, so I don’t
have to worry about you being taken care
of in old age. Her immediate response was
don’t worry about me I will be ok, but if I go
first you get married as soon as possible
because I know you will go crazy without a
wife to care for you. Now that was about 25
years ago. I nursed her through 15 years of
Alzheimer’s and she has been gone since
2012. I still haven’t found God’s woman for
